The ICY: Inclusion, Childhood and Youth Research Centre brings together scholars conducting world-leading and high impact research on learning and human development, children's rights, inclusive and equitable quality education and sustainable development in rapidly evolving digital societies. Inclusion refers to the intersection of specific resources and needs; gender as well as socio-technical, cultural, religious and geographical aspects.
Our approach is informed by a broad understanding of education, childhood and youth, encompassing: learning and human development across the life span; moral and character education; media and technologies; gender; diversity, poverty and inequality; disability; ecology, health and wellbeing as well as peace and human rights.
Our research creates new knowledge across a wide range of fields, including childhood studies, psychology and cognitive neuroscience, education, media studies, sociology, economics, human geography, ICT for development, global studies and international policy and law. We expand knowledge in these fields beyond Western-European and Anglo-American research traditions, both conceptually and methodologically, in order to ensure that the priorities and perspectives of research participants and collaborators from the global south and the majority world are considered.
